Maintenance Visit on the High Seas
two service technicians from the haacon group will head out to perform the mandatory, on-site hoist-inspection. Departing from Rostock, the technicians will travel by ship to platform "FIN02", 40 kilometres northwest of Rügen. To approach the platform upon arrival, they will transship to an inflatable dinghy launched from the ship. This was no everyday assignment for Martin Hennich, the technician-in-charge. Asked about working at such dizzying heights, he explained "that it would pose no problem, that he felt himself fit for this assignment, having graduated earlier from a training course in working safely at great heights".
Fino 2 is one of three research platforms outfitted with measuring equipment related to the planned construction of wind-energy facilities in the North Sea. They provide valuable insights for technically- and environmentally-sound construction and operation of offshore wind farms.
The instruments are mounted on booms that can be lowered by cable and winch. The purpose of the service visit is the routine inspection of facility components, which date from 2007.
Those who have winches, lifting- and towing-gear in service, as well as hoists, can have haacon maintain them, because hoists must be inspected at least once a year, depending on operating conditions, by an expert, that is, a qualified Person 2 as described in Technical Regulations for Safety in the Workplace (TRBS) 1203.. (Inspection in compliance with the Ordinance on Industrial Safety and Health, §3, Section 2 is equivalent to EG directives 89/391/EWG and 95/63/EG, corresponding to the annual operational safety inspection specified in BGV D8, §23, Section 2 and BGG956). This inspection must be documented.
